I just finished reading the 1936 book "Wake Up and Live!" by Dorothea Brande. Although it's 80+ years old, it contains self-help advice that feels as if it's modern.
Brande's core advice is this: Act as if it were impossible too fail. Too many people, she says, are trapped by fear and insecurity. They never do the things they dream of doing because they imagine the things that could go wrong. They imagine POSSIBLE pain that could come through pursuing their goal (failure, embarrassment, and so on). Ironcically, they trade these imagined poossible pains for the ACTUAL pain of never doing anything. They're left with mountains of broken dreams.
Brande argues that even the smallest insignificant accomplishment is better than the biggest dream. Actions speak louder than words.
